The Brady Jones Project
Sometime around August 12, 1999, I had a strange dream. I
dreamt that I was in my apartment at the time and, on the hall table where my roommate usually
put the mail, I saw a CD. It looked exactly like the CD single of the song "Bizarre
Love Triangle" by New Order that I had bought (in real life) a few weeks
prior. In my dream, I recognized it as a copy I had ordered (a dream order)
because the original was defective. This version had B-sides by other bands,
for some reason. One of them was a song by one of my favorite bands, Ben Folds
Five, called "Brady Jones", and it was 9 minutes and 39 seconds long.
It bears mentioning at this point that BFF have never recorded a song by that
name.
Now, I was a regular on the newsgroup alt.music.ben-folds-five.
I decided this might be something interesting and random to post -- so I did.
The response was overwhelming. People thought that a song by the title of 'Brady
Jones' should be a Ben Folds Five song. People mused and did research about
people named Brady Jones. People even wrote songs called 'Brady Jones'. I wrote
a song called 'Brady Jones'. It was all very entertaining for a few days, and
I've decided to immortalize it here.
